ACO Is One of Four to Generate Savings All Six Years of MSSP ProgramTAMPA, Fla., RACINE/KENOSHA, Wis., SHEBOYGAN, Wis., and MILWAUKEE (Oct. 14, 2019) – Collaborative Health Systems, a WellCare Health Plans, Inc. (NYSE: WCG) company, announced today the more than 290 providers in the Accountable Care Coalition (ACC) of Southeast Wisconsin have generated $75.8 million in total savings for the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) for performance years 2013 through 2018, according to figures released by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Shared savings earned by the Accountable Care Organization (ACO) over the six performance years was more than $37.6 million.
A Top Performer in Wisconsin and Across the Country
The ACC of Southeast Wisconsin, which launched in 2012 as one of the original MSSP ACOs, is one of four ACOs to generate savings all six years of the program. The ACO was a top performer in total savings and shared savings among ACOs in Wisconsin and the 11th best performer in the country based on earned per beneficiary per month (PBPM) payments. In performance year 2018, the ACC of Southeast Wisconsin generated $11.7 million in total savings for Medicare and $6.6 million in shared savings for the ACO – nearly triple the savings achieved in performance year 2017. Providers in the ACC of Southeast Wisconsin also achieved an overall quality score of 96%.
“We are extremely proud to have generated savings for the Medicare Shared Savings Program and our providers for the sixth consecutive year,” said Dr. Bruce Herman, medical director for the Accountable Care Coalition of Southeast Wisconsin. “We are committed to providing highquality preventive care and chronic disease management to Medicare beneficiaries in our ACO and are grateful the program allows us to demonstrate how we can provide increasing value to the healthcare system and for our over 9,100 Medicare Fee-For-Service beneficiaries.”
“The Accountable Care Coalition of Southeast Wisconsin is demonstrating how physicians can thrive and retain their independence by embracing value-based care that increases accountability, lowers costs and improves quality,” said Anthony Valdés, president of Collaborative Health Systems. “We look forward to our continued partnership as we work with providers to deepen patient relationships, advance care in our local communities and improve health outcomes.”
Medicare ACOs are groups of doctors, hospitals and other healthcare providers who come together voluntarily to provide coordinated high-quality care to their Medicare beneficiaries, while avoiding unnecessary duplication of services and preventing medical errors. When an ACO exceeds quality and financial thresholds – demonstrating achievement of high-quality care and wiser spending of healthcare dollars – it is able to share in the savings generated for Medicare.
The ACC of Southeast Wisconsin is an MSSP ACO focused on value-based healthcare. As one of eight Track 2 ACOs in the MSSP, the ACC of Southeast Wisconsin shares in both financial savings and risk.
